Migration Instructions for Existing Customers

Note: vOperations Suite 4.0 must be installed as a new virtual machine (the existing update mechanism will not support the change from 32 to 64 bit operating system and libraries).

There are five database options available for migrating from the existing VKernel appliance to the new vOperations Suite 4.0 appliance:

  1. From an existing embedded database to an embedded database in the new version.
  2. From an existing embedded database to an external database for the new version.
  3. From an external database to an embedded database in the new version.  The embedded database in the new version is no longer limited to environments of 200 or fewer virtual machines.
  4. From an external database to a new external database in the new version.
  5. Use the same external database for the new version.  The external database schema will be automatically updated and will no longer work with the previous version of the vOperations Suite.

Step 1: Download and install the new vOperations Suite 4.0 version using the vOperations Suite Installation Instructions.

Step 2: Read and accept the license agreement.

Step 3: If option 5 above was selected, power down the existing appliance at this time.

Step 4: Select the database type and configure the desired database.

Step 5: Select the type of user management.

Step 6: Configure the vCenter connections and assign the socket licenses.

Step 7: Finish the configuration.

Step 8: For options 1 through 4 above, select Settings > General > DB Settings and click on Migrate Remote Database. Enter the IP address and credentials for the existing appliance and click Start Database Migration. Wait for the migration to complete.

Step 9: Select Settings > License > [One of the licensed products], click Migrate License, enter the IP address and credentials for the existing appliance and click Next. New licenses for the new vOperations Suite 4.0 will be sent via email automatically.  A screen indicating that the license has been successfully sent should appear and you should receive the license(s) at the email provided. If for some reason you do not receive the license email within 5-10 minutes or if migration does not succeed, please contact support@vkernel.com.
