This powerful, free tool allows you to easily assess the performance impact of capacity changes to your existing virtualized environment. Make changes with confidence.
Capacity Modeler allows systems administrators to gauge the impact of adjusting an environment before making any actual changes. This insight allows for accurate planning of maintenance downtimes, equipment additions or removals, and environment setting changes. Installed as a virtual appliance, Capacity Modeler provides value within 20 minutes after download.
Starting with your current environment as a baseline, Capacity Modeler makes it easy to see the impact that adding VMs or moving VMs around will have on capacity and performance. Simply select a host and add a VM, or drag and drop VMs to other hosts and the VKernel capacity analytics engine will recalculate the environment’s capacity and pinpoint any potential problems.
When considering a hardware change or consolidation to the environment, Capacity Modeler assists system administrators in planning a purchase or machine removal by assessing the impact of the change. With the specifications of more than 428 commonly purchased hardware items built in and the environment’s existing hosts and VM templates available, it is easy to simulate adding or removing hosts, clusters or storage. VKernel’s capacity analytics engine will immediately find bottlenecks and recalculate capacity that would be available if the changes were made.
With Capacity Modeler, hosts can be “placed” into a maintenance mode to simulate the impacts of a host’s planned downtime on the entire environment. Furthermore, procedures for shifting resources and VMs during maintenance periods can be quickly developed and tested as the action history of a modeling simulation is captured and exportable.
Whether choosing between purchasing options, configurations, or when trying to gain insights into the ramifications of multiple environment decisions, Capacity Modeler allows a system administrator to maintain multiple models representing different data center scenarios. Each model is actively assessed by Vkernel’s Capacity Analytics engine to allow fast comparisons between options in terms of capacity and performance. This information can be enhanced with reports on CPU, Memory, Storage, and Network impacts that are easily exportable.
